Ranking of card hands in Texas Holdem Poker
In Texas Holdem Poker each player must make a poker hand containing five cards. You have your 2 "hole cards" and 5 community cards and you can use any combination of 5 cards giving you the best poker hand.
The lowest ranking hand is when you have 5 cards that are all of different suits and number value. This is known as high card. With the Ace being the highest.
Next is when just 2 of your cards are the same. This is a pair.
When you have have 2 lots of matching cards this is known as 2 pairs.
Three matching value cards is next and known as three of a kind.
A straight is when you have 5 cards that form a run of consecutive numbers.
Then comes a flush which is 5 cards all of the same suit.
A full house is next and this comprises three cards the same and the other two cards being the same. Three of a kind and a pair.
Four of a Kind is four cards all of the same value. Having 4 aces is highest.
Next comes a straight flush, this is 5 consecutive cards of the same suit.
The highest poker hand is the royal flush. The odds of this happening and pretty slim, But getting the 10, J, Q, K and Ace of the same suit means you will always be a winner.
